TheProject:

The scope of work includes the following items on existing galvanized steel transmission structures with energized double circuit 230kV transmission lines;

  • Supply and installation of steel tower body upgrade kits
  • Supply and installation of overhead shield wire arm (OHSW) upgrade kits and phase conductor arm upgrade kits
  • Energized replacement of existing torsional conductor dampers with new Mosdorfer phase conductor dampers
  • OHSW insulator removal and bonding of the OHSW to the tower structure and installation of OHSW Spiral Dampers

The Challenges:

  • These Transmission circuits are 2 of the main lines in the Province of Saskatchewan and this required that all work be completed with both 230kV Circuits Energized
  • Working in Environmentally sensitive areas, on Crown Land, and across cultivated fields
  • Some work in wet areas requires dealing with winter conditions and working on ice.

 

Specialized Work Methods:

  • Barehand Work Procedures utilized for the Damper replacements
  • Bonding/Grounding procedures for OHSW Insulator removal
  • Working on Ice Procedures for several tower sites
  • Maintaining integrity of tower during all steel member replacements
