JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to Environmental Manager, the Lead Construction Environmental Monitor will have overall responsibility for monitoring construction in accordance with the applicable Environmental Protection Plan(s), Construction Environmental Management Plan, contract and regulatory requirements. You will have a strong background and experience in environmental inspection, monitoring and compliance specific to linear infrastructure projects. This position is located at Site C. The incumbent will also act on behalf of the Environmental Manager in their absence.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Conduct monitoring of construction in accordance with the applicable Environmental Protection Plan(s), Construction Environmental Management Plan, contract, and regulatory requirements;
  • Communicate with Client and Client onsite representatives during auditing activities as it relates to compliance;
  • Provide technical assistance on environmental matters to construction personnel;
  • In consultation with the Allteck’s Qualified Environmental Professional(s), provide recommendations for modifying and/or improving environmental mitigation measures, as necessary;
  • Document construction activities, mitigation measures, and environmental incidents by field notes and photographs;
  • Take field measurements and conduct analyses in accordance with the EPP as needed;
  • Complete inspection checklists for each monitoring site visit consistent with the monitoring requirements in the EPP;
  • In consultation with the Qualified Environmental Professional(s), identify and provide recommendations for resolving potential problems to Allteck and the Client;
  • Prepare, sign and submit to the Client and Client representative’s weekly Environmental Monitoring Reports during construction periods in accordance with the relevant EPP(s) and as per the CEMP requirements;
  • Prepare and submit to the Client and the Client representatives an Environmental Completion Report at the end of construction activities that describes compliance with the applicable EPP(s), and any reportable environmental incidents, including the responses to those incidents that may have occurred in the course of work;
  • Act on behalf of the Allteck Environmental Manager in their absence.

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  • BS or BA degree (Environmental Science, Biology, Natural Resource Management, Geosciences, Chemistry, Environmental Policy, etc.) from an accredited 4 year college or university; relevant Professional Designation in British Columbia preferred (Professional Biologist, Agrologist, Forester, Geoscientist, CPESC, etc.);
  • 5+ years of environmental inspection, monitoring, and compliance experience specific to linear infrastructure projects;
  • Thorough understanding of construction execution strategies

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution strategies;
  • Advanced technical skills, including, but not limited to, experience using Microsoft Office programs, and report writing;
  • Ability to create solutions to complex compliance issues, while remaining mindful of construction methods and schedule commitments;
  • Significant experience conducting pre-work nest surveys preferred, along with experience in Western Toad Management practices;
  • The ability to travel extensively, work a 10 hour/day rotational shift (3 weeks on/1 week off)
  • Possess a clean driving record;
  • Pass a Drug and Alcohol clearance test
